Since taking up the “Betty White Challenge” on January, 12th, 2022 in honor of known animal rights advocate and activist Betty White, the Town of Islip has seen an outpouring of support from a community eager to commemorate her legacy with donations to the Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-a-Pet Center.

January 12th, 2022 – Monday, January 17th, 2022, would have been beloved actress and animal rights activist Betty White’s 100th birthday. To honor her memory and dedication to animal rights, the Town of Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-A-Pet-Center is participating in the “Betty White Challenge.”

January 25th, 2022 – Residents, members of the community, turned out in force this weekend for a race and polar plunge benefitting US Veterans. The 2.2-mile run/walk began and ended at Walker Beach in Brightwaters, where the bravest among the crowd dipped into the frigid 40-degree waters of the Great South Bay. Air temperature was 18 degrees Fahrenheit at the time. Proceeds from the run went to benefit Operation VEST to support the prevention of veteran suicide.
