Islip, NY – A historic winter storm Monday, February 23 brought a record-breaking 31 inches of snow to Long Island MacArthur Airport, the highest snowfall ever recorded there. From the moment the storm began, the Town of Islip mobilized a full-scale response to keep residents safe and roads passable.

Students from Brentwood’s West Middle School gathered with faculty, staff, and Islip Town officials, including Councilman Jorge Guadron to donate 2,000 plastic bottles collected over the course of the schoolyear to the Town’s PET for Pets initiative. Students in Mrs. Tronolone and Mrs. Patton’s middle school class oversaw the collection. The students’ recycling effort is part of Mr. Rivera’s Green Machines Recycling project designed to reduce the school’s carbon footprint, give back to the community and to students.

Town of Islip DPW crews are out in full force, filling potholes throughout the Town’s approximately 1,300 miles of roadway. To date in 2026, crews have already filled more than 12,250 potholes. As highway crews continue to address potholes across the Town, Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter wants to remind residents that the Town of Islip can only perform repairs on roads that are under Town jurisdiction.

The West Sayville Fire Department Flying Dutchmen Drill Team has won 14 New York State Championships between 1975 and 2025. They have also won 199 Drill Team Tournaments, having been Suffolk County Total Point Champions 19 times. Continuing to showcase their excellence, the team has served as a training ground for dedicated volunteers to apply the intense skillsets needed during times of crisis, demonstrating lifesaving measures each competitive meet, and executing skills needed to protect and serve our community.
