April 23rd, 2020 – The Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-a-Pet center is pleased to report there has been no reduction in pet adoptions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In spite of new adoption procedures in accordance with the NYS Executive Order and NYS on Pause, the shelter has facilitated the adoption of 18 dogs and two cats since March 30th.
"It’s a positive sign to see the Islip community has continued to open their hearts and homes to provide loving families for our pets during these trying times," said Department of Environmental Control Commissioner, Martin Bellew. "For many, there's never been a better time to bond with a new family friend. It's a ray of hope and a testament to the kindheartedness of our neighbors," he said.

Appointments will be staggered in order to serve one family at a time. All meet-and-greets will take place outside the adoption center.
