A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

September 30th, 2020 September 29, 2020 – Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and NY State Assemblyman Phil Ramos attended a joint press conference at the Central Islip Senior Center, to announce $250,000 in grant money earmarked for improvements to the senior center.

The center has served the community well in the past, hosting both senior citizen and youth programs. The center’s most recent renovations began in 2019, and further improvements will continue through the grant funding secured by Assemblyman Ramos.

Improvements include a commercial grade stove, grease trap, exhaust hood, fire suppression system, air conditioning, window replacement, ADA compliant bathrooms and cosmetic repairs and paint. “This center has long been a lifeline for our seniors, offering meals, social interaction and activities that keep residents engaged and connected,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “These improvements are essential in order to offer quality programs and services,” she said.

“Our seniors are the pioneers of this community, and they have made it what it is today. We have an obligation to invest in facilities that help them and that are good for them, and that they can be proud of,” said NYS Assemblyman Phil Ramos.

Also on hand were Tom Owens, Commissioner, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs and Deputy Commissioner, Carol Charchalis.

Improvements should be completed within 12 months of the funding being secured.
