A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

Elected Officials and Rabbi gather for menorah lighting

November 30th, 2021 Islip residents joined with Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter, Rabbi Shimon Stillerman of Chabad of Islip, Chabad members, and Town of Islip officials at the Town of Islip annual Menorah Lighting at Town Hall Monday.

Families gathered around the Hanukkah menorah as Rabbi Stillerman shared a heartfelt message to today’s youth, that the human spirit shines brightly like the light of a menorah, and it is important to nurture one’s mental health “You are a candle that cannot be extinguished. You have a power, you are important, you have a purpose, take care of yourself,” said the Rabbi. “If you’re here, it means you have something special you need to do, that only you can do. You can be a light to help somebody else. You need to take that light, nourish it, add it in, every single day…to help another person, and do your purpose in the world,” he said.

Supervisor Carpenter echoed the Rabbi’s message, adding that the Islip community is like a family, made up of residents who truly care for one another. “It reinforces what each and every one of us here tonight hold in our heart, that we’re part of this wonderful community, this family here in the Town of Islip…and that the spirit is indominable. It is important for us, especially with children, to let everyone know how important they are,” said Supervisor Carpenter.

In attendance were Councilman James O’Connor; Receiver of Taxes, Andy Wittman; Commissioner, Parks, Recreation, Cultural Affairs and DPW, Tom Owens; Deputy Commissioners Dierdre Wahlberg and Carol Charchalis.
