Local Officials from the Town of Islip cut the ribbon in front of the Deli

September 17th, 2025 – Islip, NY – Town of Islip Supervisor and members of the Town Board, paid tribute to 5 residents of Hispanic descent, all members of the community that make Islip a better place, at September’s Town Board meeting. The event marked the Town’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Honorees included Iris Cruz, Pastor James Diaz, Maureen Diaz, Diosalma Melgar, and Melissa Escobar.

Congratulations to all the honorees of this year’s Hispanic Heritage awards, and a sincere thank you for all you have done and continue to do for our community,” said Supervisor Carpenter

Councilman Guadron added, “Both their achievements and their character that shines through them, prove the dedication these residents have to their neighbors, family, friends, and our Town.”

“These honorees embody compassion, faith, and advocacy, their work has enriched countless lives around Islip and beyond,” Councilman O’Connor said.

“Commitment to the community is at the center of what these honorees do, and the warmth and kindness they provide to those around them every day continues to inspire and uplift,” said Councilman Lorenzo.

“We are proud to recognize these honorees for their achievements and passion,” said Councilman McElwee. “We appreciate every resident who has this much drive and passion to get involved and make a difference in Islip.”
