Town Employees wear red for Cardiac Health

February 2nd, 2024 – Supervisor Carpenter and Islip Town employees wore red for the Town’s annual “Go Red for Women” campaign Friday, during February, American Heart Month. Personnel from departments Town-wide contributed $5 each, to be donated to cardiac health and research programs at neighboring hospitals, Good Samaritan University Hospital and South Shore University Hospital.

“Symptoms of a cardiac event vary between men and women,” said Islip Town Supervisor, Angie Carpenter. “Today, the Town is shining a spotlight on women making a commitment to take charge of their own heart health and the health of those they love. We are grateful to our Town of Islip employees, who continue to embrace each and every opportunity to raise awareness, whether it be for breast cancer awareness, substance abuse treatment, or our wonderful partnership with the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program. Today, hundreds of dollars were raised for cardiac health and research, and we are truly appreciative,” said the Supervisor.

Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. Most cardiovascular diseases can still be prevented with education and healthy lifestyle changes, according to the American Heart Association.
