town crews patch potholes

March 5th, 2021 Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter, along with members of the Town Board, are asking for the public’s help in the Town’s effort to locate and fill potholes throughout its roadways.

Potholes are caused by the expansion and contraction of ground water under the pavement. When water freezes, it expands causing potholes. While there is not much that can be done to prevent potholes, with the public’s assistance, roads can be back in shape in time for Spring. Town crews estimate there are hundreds of potholes throughout the Township that need to be filled.

“Our crews work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our roads. Our Department of Public Works employees do an outstanding job of filling these potholes,” said Supervisor, Angie Carpenter.

Town officials are asking for the public’s help in locating potholes. Residents are encouraged to call 631-224-5600 to report a pothole location and details, or report the pothole online via islipny.gov/report.
